DJ's Community Christian Academy Visits
Channel 3! Our kids have all watched the news, but what really goes on behind the scenes to make everything we are viewing possible? Our parents and children from grades 3-7 got an inside look at the live TV news world on May 30th when they toured Channel 3 and got to ask a lot of questions. Who knew that the bad guys were not actually inside the news station when they committed their crimes? How else could the station capture everything on video? What did all the control panels do? The buttons and levers? Sometimes it seemed more like a space ship in there than a news room.Chanzee Grice, Dachari's mom, confided that she was more excited to be there than any of the kids, but by the looks on the kid's faces, everyone had a great time. In the end, the whole class got to host the weather with Kevin Jameson. Students Compete at ASCI Speech Meet Twelve students from grades first through fifth from DJ’s Community Christian Academy competed at the ASCI Speech Meet. Select students competed against over 100 students from different Christian schools from the Las Vegas and Henderson area. Students were given a selection from specific categories, memorized their selection, and then recited their selections for a panel of judges. The students are then judged on memorization skills, poise, and presentation. Students received a score of Superior, Excellent or Good. Congratulations to all the students who participated: Jake Olliges (Superior), Dillon John (Superior), Alyssa Bostford-Alanis (Excellent), Haley Kinney (Excellent), Jonathan DeLa Cruz (Excellent), Trent Smith (Excellent), Jacque Schramm (Good), Ariel Peters (Good), Andrew Mlynsky (Good), Taryn Mollack (Good), Alexius Baseleon (Good), Ashley Hansen (Good). “I’m so proud of our students,” says coordinator Mrs. Bolin, “They were nervous, but they really shined at competition.” Mrs. Debra Abendroth, principal, was also proud of the student’s performance, “They were able to stand in front of a group of people and recite their parts, many adults aren’t able to do that.” This is DJ’s Community Christian Academy’s first Speech Meet competition. ACSI Spelling Bee
On February 1, 2012, seven students from DJ’s Community Christian Academy competed against over 150 students from various Las Vegas schools in the ACSI district (Associated Christian Schools International) spelling bee. Students spent extensive time memorizing lengthy word lists and competed against students in the same class level. Each of our students placed in the top half of their class competition. Mathew Gellner-Garcia placed third in the seventh grade competition, narrowly missing the opportunity to compete for a place in the ACSI regional spelling bee. The following students participated in the spelling bee: first grade, Adrienne Anderson; second grade, Cole Melchert; third grade, Ashlyn Tyner; fourth grade, Matthew Lea; fifth grade, Ariel Peters; sixth grade, Colby Evans; and seventh grade, Mathew Gellner-Garcia. Congratulations to all of our spelling bee participants! |
