Elementary Students Excel in MathematicsHenderson, Nevada, January 11, 2012 – Three DJ's Academy students achieved high scores in the regional Math by Mail competition, sponsored by the Association of Christian Schools (ASCI). Talon Gude (3rd grade), Matthew Lea (4th grade), and Jake Olliges (4th grade) all scored within the top 25% of the 1,224 participating students.
Jake Olliges placed 3rd place in the Rocky Mountain region, which includes students from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada. The students will have the opportunity to participate at the Math Olympics to be held on March 16, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Clint Wright (1st grade teacher) coordinated the event and had this to say about the students: “This is our first year competing in the Math by Mail competition and we are delighted that our students performed so well! We are looking forward to the Math Olympics in March and hope to bring home an award or two!” Mrs. Abendroth, Principal at DJ’s Community Christian Academy, is very proud of her students and says “We may be a smaller school, but we are making a big impact in our community.” |
